Shoe challenge: the aftermath

Oh, how to talk about this past year that was my shoe challenge? I started the challenge because I really believed in the philosophy behind it: shoes are meant to be worn, not to be just collected and gather dust. But, like all people, I had some favourites, and like all people, I too was lured into chosing those particular pairs all too often. While I had tons and tons of shoes, waiting to be taken out! So, I took the challenge, and there were winners and losers. Ninety pairs of shoes were worn, of which 86 will stay in my collection.
Above you can see the pairs that will be leaving me soon. During the course of the past year a couple of others have gone already, but these are the final ones. Three pairs were worn during the challenge, three were not. The black mary janes are a bit worn and have been replaced, the pale pink ones will go to my best friend and the brown ballet flats have never been comfortable, so I must accept that I won't wear them anyway. The glittery brown peep toes were passed on to me, and they just don't fit right. The Miss Sixty peep toes don't really suit me anymore, just like the Tommy Hilfiger boots, although both pairs have hardly ever been worn.

In the beginning it was hard for me to create 'outfits'. I'm not one to wear jewellery or makeup, and I hardly ever pick out accessories and I wasn't sure if there was a place out in the blogosphere for me. But I did it mostly for myself, and I feel that I have learned a lot since that very first challenge. I love combining colours, and I have noticed that over the past years more and more friends ask me for sartorial advice. People name shoes and fashion as one of my hobbies, and consider me to know a lot about trends and designers. I think they realised how much I had found myself and my own style, before I did myself.
Do I buy shoes more consciously? I'm not sure... I still buy shoes, although I'm still trying hard to cut back. But the two pairs above were two recent purchases (damn discount codes!). I was longing after these colour block sandals for ages (Heist - Asos) and the gold sandals (also Asos) seemed like a good backup for these.
I'm not sure if I'll keep up blogging now that the shoe challenge is finished, but I might try to take some occasional outfit photos whenever I'm extremely pleased with a certain look. But I might again challenge myself, whenever Shoeperwoman decides to launch a new challenge after hers finishes in February.

Now, my ten favourite looks from the last year. (sorry you'll have to click the links, I don't want to make this post too photo heavy.

Blush ballerina.
Fuchsia Lady Dragons by Vivienne Westwood.
Sunshine wedges.

More leopard print.
